Lightbulb FYI Pop Up Control

After installing Google's toolbar on my browser I was unable to access the VisualTours through Realtor.com or any other sites. Google's Toolbar has a pop up control feature and even when allowing pop ups I was still unable to view the tours. I then realized that I had to visit the visual tour site and set the toolbar to allow pop ups since the pop ups were actually coming from this site. An easy fix but I wonder:
a) how many clients may install some type of pop up control program?
b) how will they know that they have to allow pop ups from the VisualTour site when they are visiting other sites to view the tours

Just thinking out loud and wondering if tech support is aware of this & thought I'd share in case some one else came across this issue.

Default We Know AND We Have a Solution

We are aware that some pop up blockers can mistake a tour for a pop up ad, and earlier this week, someone brought the Google toolbar in particular to our attention.

The good news is that we already have a way to prevent tours from being blocked. We just need to promote it better.

All we do (or all you do when you add a link to a website) is look in the link for show.asp and change it to shownp.asp. Let me give you an example.

Regular link that could be mistaken for a pop up ad by some pop up blockers:
http://www.visualtour.com/show.asp?T=3649

Revised link that works even with pop up blockers installed:
http://www.visualtour.com/shownp.asp?T=3649

By adding adding those two letters (np - think of it as No Popup) after "show" but before ".asp" the tour does not try to pop up in a specially sized window, so there is nothing to block.

As I started to say a moment ago, we want to better promote the pop up friendly links, so here are a few places we added them on Tuesday, January 13th, 2004.
  1. The email agents receive after uploading a tour.

  2. The sample links page that you see when you log into your account and click the LINKS button next to each tour on the My Tours page.

  3. The email sent to anyone directly from a tour (clicking Share Tour and using option 1).

As a side note related to REALTOR.com:
People linking to REALTOR.com using the free method will not see "show.asp" in the link. They will see showtour.asp. Changing that to shownp.asp would work, but it would cause a problem with the tour view stats becoming inaccurate, so they should also add &prt=9 to the end of the link.

For example,
http://www.visualtour.com/showtour.asp?T=3649
becomes
http://www.visualtour.com/shownp.asp?T=3649&prt=9

If you have any questions about the new links or modifying existing links to make them pop up friendly, the support staff at 800-873-0700 will be happy to help.
