Post What type of digital camera can I use?

Any digital camera (or scanner) can be used. If you haven't purchased a camera yet, we highly recommend that you choose a camera with a removable memory card (or diskette), and one that has at least a 29mm wide angle lens built in.

Default The "best" digital camera

As an update... unfortunately the digital camera manufacturers have pretty much given up on creating cameras with a 28 or 29 mm equivalent wide angle lens built in. Occasionally you can find one "reconditioned" such as the Kodak DC215 or Kodak DC4800. Both are great cameras for real estate use and if you can find a reconditioned unit with a manufacturer's warranty, you'll get a great deal!

With the ease of use of creating even small panoramic scenes (just 2 images stitched together), the true need for a built in wide angle lens is less justified, but a nice feature if you can find it.

The continuing growth of technology is leading to cameras of greater resolution, so it is increasingly common for the staff at VisualTour to be asked if there is a maximum resolution or number of megapixels that should be used.

The answer is no. Images are automatically sized down to be more web friendly during the process of uploading them as completed tours, so feel free to use your new high resolution camera.

Any digital camera (or scanner) can be used with the VisualTour Studio software. You will get best results if the digital camera you choose is 2MP (megapixel) or higher. The best part about using the VisualTour Studio software to create your Virtual Tours is there's no need to purchase any fancy equipment, or additional lenses. You should purchase what is within your budget and depending on your skill level with digital (or film) cameras; something you can easily learn to use. You can import the images into the software at their max resolution to get great looking results, and we will do all of the resizing for you!
