Default Launch a Tour Using Web Address (so typing www.123MainStreet.com brings up a tour)

Occasionally, the VisualTour support staff receives an inquiry from an agent wanting to set up a domain name for a particular tour. For example, an agent might want www.2703GatewayDrive.com to bring up a tour created for that property. It is easy to set up a web address to display a tour by using a feature most domain registrars refer to as forwarding or domain forwarding.

The general procedure is to log into the account you set up with the domain registrar (not a web hosting company, although one company might often do both) and look for a setting for forwarding. Type in the URL link for your tour, then click Save.

We have some specific step by step instructions for one of the more popular registrars, GoDaddy. We are not in any way affiliated with GoDaddy.com, but ever since they started registering domain names for under $10 a year, they grew very popular, so we found that many people use them for this type of domain registration where no hosting is needed. With that popularity in mind, we thought they would be a good choice for a specific example.

If you use GoDaddy.com as your registrar:
  1. Log into your account at GoDaddy.com.

  2. In the My Products section, click Domain Manager.

  3. Select the domain name you want to forward. (NOTE: You cannot forward or mask .tk domain names.)

  4. Select http://.

  5. In the Forward to field, enter the URL you want to forward your domain name to.
Note: GoDaddy places http:// in the link for you so your VisualTour link must start with www.

    www.VisualTour.com/showvt.asp?t=XXXXXX

(but replace the XXXXXX with your tour number)

  6. Click Advanced Options

  7. If you want to mask your domain (so people see the property address instead of the tour URL), click the o next to Forward with Masking.

  8. Enter a Masked Title (for example, Lovely 4 Bedroom Home or the property address) in the Title field. Type in a short description in the Description Field. If you also fill in the keywords field, your tour might get picked up by some search engines.

  9. Click OK.
For more information or to see these steps with screen shots, visit GoDaddy.com and click USER'S GUIDES toward the bottom of the page. Choose the guide called MANAGING YOUR DOMAINS. The chapter titled FORWARDING A DOMAIN NAME has the steps with screen shots.

Not using GoDaddy.com?
That's fine, just give our support staff a call and they will help you determine where the setting is for forwarding with your registrar. You will just need to know how to log into your account with your domain registrar.
